Powerkiwi is an independent NZ company, unaffiliated with any of the existing power companies.
There are eight of us involved in PowerKiwi, and we are all excited about Powershop and the possibilities the online electricity is creating for selling electricity and other products.
Three of us are ex-Trade Me, three work in a design company, two of us own a Ruby on Rails programming company, one works for a large advertising agency and the other two of us are supporting several early stage companies. None of us have a background in power, though we are learning fast.
We all blog - find out more about us and how we think on our blogs at LanceWiggs.com, RowanSimpson.com, LivLarge.co.nz, CodeToCustomer.com and SimpleandLoveable.com. You can easily contact any one of use through our blogs.
We are the first non-Meridian owned company to sell products on Powershop, and we see our role as providing genuine competition - keeping the prices low, presenting innovative products and proving that the Powershop marketplace can work when it comes to buyng power.
At the moment we purchase our electricity at a wholesale rate through Powershop, and we have tiny margins. Once our sales are large enough we will purchase (or hedge) directly from Meridian and then the other power companies, which will mean that we can offer even lower prices to homes.
PowerKiwi is always searching for new products to sell - and we are particularly interested in talking to schools, charities and businesses that want to help us expand the Powershop customer base or offer their own product on Powershop. Just drop us a line using the Contact Us form, or call Lance on 021 526239.
